You can find all kind of suggestion on the internet but I will aim to discuss 6 powerful remedies that are backed by science that you can easily do from home to take the fight to acne.
Before we get into the treatment options do you know what causes acne?
Understanding how acne starts will help you in not only treating the condition but to also be able to perform preventative steps from having an outbreak. Acne starts when the pores in your skin get filled with oil and dead skin cells.
Sebaceous gland produces an oily substance called sebum which is connected to every single pore. When extra sebum is made it can clog up your pores which then causes the growth of a bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes.
Our immune system that is tasked with killing any and all bacteria that is present will then attack this bacteria which will lead to inflammation and acne. Now since no two individual is the same, the extend of acne will vary from person to person but common symptoms are blackheads, whiteheads and zits or pimples.
Apart from extra sebum blocking your pores there are other factors that affect the development of acne. Some of these factors are genetics, stress, hormone changes and even infections.
Let us begin with the acne remedies without further delay.
1. Take a Zinc Supplement
When we talk about essential nutrients zinc is one of them. It is essential for hormone production, cell growth, immune function and metabolism. When it comes to talks about acne, zinc is the most studied nutrient for natural acne treatments. From the findings, people who suffer from acne normally have a lower level of zinc in their system.
Also they did studies and realized that taking the zinc orally helps about 80% of people see a reduction in their acne. (1)
Now when taking zinc the recommended amount is 40 mg per day. Too much of one thing is never good so do not go overdosing on zinc because you think your acne is the absolute worst.
On a side note, applying zinc to the skin has not proven to be an effective method. Zinc is not effectively absorbed through the skin.
2. Make a Honey and Cinnamon Mask
When it comes to antioxidants honey and cinnamon are great sources.
Honey and cinnamon have the ability to fight bacteria and reduce inflammation, both of which are two factors that triggers acne.
Make and Use Your Own Honey and Cinnamon Mask
- Mix 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon together to form a paste.
- Apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 10 – 15 minutes. Ensure you cleanse your face prior to applying the paste.
- Rinse the mask off completely. Pat dry your face.
3. Moisturize with Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a tropical plant whose leaves produce a clear gel. Being in the tropics myself I have em in my garden.
The gel is often added to creams, ointments, soaps and even lotions. It is also commonly used to treat rashes, burns, abrasions and other skin conditions.
When applied to the skin it helps with healing wounds and treating inflammations and burns.

If you can get you have on the actual plant here is what you do;
- Scrape the gel from the plant with a spoon.
- Apply directly to skin like a moisturizer.

On the other hand if the plant is not accessible you can try to buy the gel from the store. However make sure it is pure aloe and there are no added ingredients.
4. Try Reducing Stress
Remember when I mentioned that apart from extra sebum there are other factors that can cause acne. Well stress is one of them.
While your body is going through stress it releases hormones that may increase sebum production and cause skin inflammation. All of this will make acne worse. (2)
Studies have shown that stress and an increase in the severity of acne goes hand in hand. (3, 4)
